NeilParticipantWhy are people over 40 less preferred jobwise? Is it because they have too much experience? Or is it because they are more capable of rising up the ladder?

ShirleyAveryParticipantI don’t think there’s such a thing as “too much experience”. If you need a life-saving operation, would you rather have a young doctor just out of residency or an experienced surgeon who’d performed hundreds if not thousands of these operations? No brainer. The answer to your question – it’s usually cheaper – in terms of salary an health insurance – to hire someone just out of college. In high-tech fields, younger managers may feel (justifiably or not) that older people are not as techno-savvy. Just Curious
