Why is it that when white people are grouped together, such as during spring break, bike fests and so forth, they have no shame in performing sexual acts out in the open? It is as if they have lost all sense of pride. You would never see black people doing such things, such as performing oral sex or putting a beer bottle in a woman’s vagina in front of people, all recorded on film. Do they not realize their family will eventually see this?

People in those situations drink huge quantities of alcohol and lose their inhibitions, and act like idiots, encouraged by others doing the same.

Who’s ever seen white people having sex at a bike rally? If you are referring to college girls flashing, then yes. You say african americans would never perform sex acts in public. Good golly Ms. Molly, have you been to a dance club lately? Or maybe seen a hip hop music video? All that bumping and grinding IS lurid simulated sex in public. Heard a black comic on t.v. and all the explicit references to sex and body parts? I’m as white as they get and all my white life I ain’t never seen white people ‘performing sex acts in public.’ The only way you’ll see that is to watch an adult movie.

Especially in the case of spring break, what you’re seeing is the combination of raging hormones and alcohol. That combination puts all inhibitions and pride on the back burner. As for only whites, I’m not going to call you a liar. You saw what you saw, I didn’t. However, whenever I see pictures/home movies/tv coverage of spring break, it’s not only white people I see performing sexual acts in public. I see many nationalities of people ‘doing it’ in public. It could be possible that whites stand out more during spring break. Seeing as how many students go to Florida from the colder states where it’s not as easy to be nice and tanned during the colder months of the year.

I have seen people of all races perform lewd acts in public, MTV’s Spring Break has also shown many people that aren’t white get together. Also such shows as ‘Blind Date’ African-Americans are notorious for ‘hooking up’ so I think that it is the age of people on shows like ‘Spring Break’ and their consumption of alchohal that contributes to their public displays of lust and sex. To be perfectly frank, you seem to be generalizing not only white people, but you are placing your values and life experience on all of the people that share your skin color.

I’ve seen some of the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ videos, and I can say that there are plenty of black girls willing to put bottles in their vaginas.

I always have that same thought: ‘Don’t they get that their family might eventually see it?’ But it’s not just about white people – black men and women are also in pornos. True, white people do this stuff on Spring Break and not just for pornos. I think it’s disgusting that anyone does stuff like that in public. Slutty white girls give us all a bad name. White people do need to chill with the public sex fests. Not cool.

I agree that the behavior you describe is pretty offensive when shared in public. However, in my experience, it is not a white thing. Because you identify as a lesbian, you have likely been to gay community events (rallies, pride parades, union ceremonies) where same-sex couples have held hands, embraced, walked arm-in-arm, walked with arms around each other, or engaged in lingering kisses … all behavior that would alarm some folks, non-gay people in particular.
You may or may not have been to gay bars or clubs where the ambience is more sexual than social … there are such clubs for men, for women and even some where men and women mix. Sometimes the activity there is more explicit – full or partial nudity, more profoundly intimate contact in pairs or in groups, s-m play. This is pleasurable for the participants and willing witnesses but not everyone’s idea of entertainment. Never in these events that I have been to, or heard of, have I had the sense that these where white-only events. In fact, I (a white, gay male) have been to such events that were predominantly non-white.
I have a feeling that these events that I describe and that you mention (I assume from ‘Girls Gone Wild,’ Mardi Gras and spring break videos, right?) are just examples of people blowing of steam in an environment where they feel comfortable and with others of similar sexual taste. Maybe you notice an all-white strain because these filmed and videoed examples are being advertised for sale and the sellers believe that their customers are white and want to see white people. Similarly, one rarely sees people of color in Martha Stewart Living magazine or at NASDAQ events, but it does not mean that in life people of color do not cook (or keep showcase houses) or drive cars (or even race them). I suggest that the ‘black-out’ you notice is commercial and not behavioral.
In fact, there is a considerable amount of sex material (magazine, books, tapes, etc.) featuring non-white people and intended for people of color. Of course, it is not advertised on television.
I might add this thought: ‘The sexy stuff I like is erotic, the sexy stuff others like is pornography.’

I live in Galveston, Texas. Every spring there is a weekend event on the island for black college students. It’s pretty publicly debauched …. so much so that one doesn’t dare take young children to the beach that weekend.

Black people are not immune to ‘wild’ promiscuous behavior. In fact, that’s one of the reasons blacks are having increased problems with teenage pregnancy, AIDS and so forth. And believe me, some young blacks can and do get just as ‘dirty’ as young whites. The porn industry sells to both races. Anyway, what you see on the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ videos are representative of how people act when they’re drunk. Do you really think most of those women would behave in the same manner if they were completely sober? I doubt it. Many of them probably do regret the things they’ve done, if of course they don’t want to portray themselves in a sleezy manner. One must also consider the fact that it could be a cry for male attention.

Hmm… have you ever heard of freaknik (or however you spell it?) it’s billed as the spring break for the historically black colleges and takes place down south (i believe atlanta). there are plenty of african american males and females that perform lewd and indecent acts, often in front of video cameras. women are groped and harassed to such an extent, that i have friends who live in atlanta that don’t go out during the week of freaknik. if you do a web search on ‘freakniq’ you can see black people acting with no self-respect too (much as i hate it).

I think your experience may be limited as far as seeing public sex acts and/or lewd behavior because certainly it’s not something confined to whites. I live in a city that is heavily African American and generates African American crowds which generate the same sort of behavior. Masses of people, especially but not exclusively young people, do lots of stupid, inappropritate, potentially dangerous stuff in the name of fun, ‘letting loose.’ I agree with the responder who noted that gay pride events include such activity.
