Karen McCarthyMemberI live in Maine and we have a very homogenous white population. How do I know when dialect used in literature is offensive to others? It has come up as a group of children’s librarians reviewed a picture book set in the Carribbean, as a teacher asked children to put a section of dialect into Standard English, and as my book group reads Twain’s Puddin’head Wilson?
