From what I’ve learned about Islam, women should cover their bodies/faces, as is usually seen in Arab countries. But Muslim women in the Balkans seem to dress like most Western women – they wear pants, don’t cover their hair, etc. Are these women practicing/observant Muslims who just don’t take the laws/customs literally? Are there liberal Muslims who adapt their religious practice to changing times, like Reform Jews? Are these practices accepted as legitmate expressions of Islam by other, more orthodox Muslims?
