I have worked in the Postal Service for over ten years. Management never listens to suggestions or ideas from those at the bottom rung of the ladder, letter carriers, clerks, and mail handlers. Yes we have some lazy slugs, but most employees are dedicated hard working people. But there is a double standard where management can do or get away with anything, and it if real bad, they just get transfered to another post office. In turn, craft employees are generally protected by the unions from discipline for minor infractions. So there it is: we go stale because our ideas for improvements are rejected, because of who we are, and we can and do get away with almost anything we want (unless it is criminal). So one must be a hard worker and have integrity because that is part of his value system in order to make the myth disappear. Everyone does not have ethics or values. We do have bad apples. So many just wait for retirement and do not want to get too involved with helping solve problems.
