Reply To: Reply To: African-American? Why?

While there is some truth in all the comments I have seen, the problem with ethnic labels is that they do not always define who we are as a race of people. I am originally from the Caribbean, and I don’t find it offensive being called black. What is more offensive to me is being classified as African American when I know very little about Africa and am certainly not American. This is not to say I don’t respect my ancestral heritage. I am sure that not every Italian or German person is white, and not every African is black. So, substituting the term African American for black is very misleading, in my opinion.
