Well, to be fair, the original poster failed to mention if the cashier was giving the elderly lady a hard time. To respond in kind is always counterproductive, but understandable. But if it is not the case, there was no call for it. Someone else responded to the post by mentioning the bad manners of elderly patients in a nursing home. Given the circumstances, they either have no idea of their rudeness, or are responding to the fact that nursing home surroundings are not conducive to feelings of geniality. I’d cut them a big break.
